Top 20 Best – Selling New Energy Vehicles in the World: BYD Song Only Ranks Second. Who’s the First?

 

Among the top 20 new energy vehicle sales in the world, Chinese brand models occupy 18 seats, and Tesla Model 3 and Model Y occupy the other two seats.

According to CleanTechnica data, in October 2024, global sales of new energy vehicles hit a record high of 1.74 million units, a month-on-month increase of 2.1% and a year-on-year increase of 36%.

New energy vehicles account for 26% of the entire automobile market, of which pure electric vehicles account for 16%. The sales of pure electric vehicles exceeded 1 million, a year-on-year increase of 23%. Plug-in hybrid vehicles performed even more outstandingly, with a year-on-year increase of 65%, setting a record high for five consecutive months.

01Tesla
Model Y is the best-selling model.
From January to October, the cumulative sales of new energy vehicles reached 13.46 million, with a market share of 20% (pure electric vehicles accounted for 13%), and the sales of pure electric vehicles were 8.5 million.
Among the top 20 new energy vehicle sales in the world, Chinese new energy vehicles accounted for the vast majority. Except for Tesla Model Y and Model 3, the remaining 18 models are all Chinese brands.

Although Tesla Model Y sales fell sharply by nearly 30% month-on-month, it is still the world’s hottest new energy vehicle, firmly occupying the first place on the list.
BYD has a total of 11 models on the list, of which 7 models are among the top ten.
Among them, BYD Song, Seagull, and Qin PLUS have sales of more than 40,000 units, Qin L and Haibao 06 have sales of nearly 40,000 units,
and BYD Han, Song L, Destroyer 05, Dolphin, and Yuan UP have sales of more than 20,000 units. Among them, BYD Han’s sales increased by 48% month-on-month to 28,000 units, re-entering the top ten of the list.
Yuan UP sales increased by more than 26% month-on-month, exceeding 20,000 units for the first time, ranking 17th on the list; Destroyer 05 and Dolphin sales increased by more than 10% month-on-month, ranking 14th and 15th respectively.
In addition to BYD, Wuling’s Hongguang MINIEV and Wuling Bingo are also on the list. Hongguang MINIEV sales increased significantly by more than 18% month-on-month, entering the top ten of the list.
It is worth noting that Xiaomi SU7 and Galaxy E5 entered the top 20 of the list for the first time. Changan Lumin and Tesla Model 3 are on the list again, and Tesla Model 3 is in the top ten again.
However, Atuo M7, Geely Panda Mini, GAC AION Y fell out of the list, and Volkswagen ID. series was not on the list either.

gap between Tesla and BYD widens.
In October, BYD’s sales increased by 21% month-on-month to 480,000 vehicles, setting a record high. In contrast, Tesla’s sales fell by 36% month-on-month to only 120,000 vehicles, and the gap between Tesla and BYD became more and more obvious.

Thanks to the hot sales of Galaxy E5, Geely’s sales increased by 23% month-on-month to more than 66,000 vehicles, surpassing Ideal Auto for the first time and ranking among the top five.
With the launch of Geely Xingyuan and Xingjian 7, Geely’s sales are expected to continue to rise, and it is expected to have the opportunity to enter the top three in the world in 2025.
Leapmotor’s sales increased by more than 15% month-on-month to 38,000 vehicles, entering the top ten for the first time.
However, GAC AION’s sales continued to decline, with only 32,000 units sold in October, a month-on-month decrease of 4.4%, falling out of the top ten for the first time and ranking 11th.
